Dr. Will Bishop-Stephens is a Senior Lecturer on the BA(Hons) Animation course and the MA Animation course at UCA Farnham.
Will loves to make things, using digital and handcrafted methods equally, and makes work that investigates our place in the material world.
His first degree was in Fine Art: Sculpture at Winchester School of Art, followed by Master’s degree in Animation from the Royal College of Art in 2006. He gained a Doctorate in Fine Art in 2022, specialising in kinetic sculpture that generates animation and sound interacting live with an audience in an exhibition space.
Will’s 2014 award-winning stop-motion film ‘Two Films About Loneliness’, co-directed with long-term collaborator Christopher Eales, was screened at film festivals around the world, including Sundance Film Festival, Edinburgh Film Festival, Oberhausen Film Festival and London International Animation Festival, where he has also been on the festival awards jury.
Previous roles have included Visiting Lecturer at Royal College of Art and at Higher Education institutions around the UK and overseas. External Examining roles have included LASALLE Puttnam School of Film & Animation, Singapore. As Course Leader for BA (Hons) Animation and BA (hons) Animation & Illustration at University of East London, Will was awarded Student Lead Teaching Award: Best Lecturer award for 2015, which was an award voted by the student body of the University.
